Microdermabrasion is one of the most effective and accessible skin resurfacing treatments available — and at Calgary Laser Health, every treatment is tailored specifically to your skin.

Using diamond tips, crystal exfoliation, or hydra dermabrasion depending on your skin type and concern, our certified skin technicians gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells — revealing fresher, smoother, more radiant skin underneath.

The result is visibly improved texture, faded sun spots, clearer pores, and a brighter overall complexion — often after just one session. With zero downtime, no needles, and no recovery period, microdermabrasion fits easily into your regular skincare routine between $99 and $150 per session.

Client Testimonials

Conditions Treated With Microdermabrasion

  • Fine lines & early wrinkles — Mechanical exfoliation stimulates collagen production, softening shallow lines caused by sun exposure and natural aging

  • Sun spots & age spots — Repeated sessions gradually fade hyperpigmentation caused by UV damage for a more even complexion

  • Shallow acne scars — Buffs away surface irregularities left behind by past breakouts, improving overall skin texture over a course of treatments

  • Enlarged pores & blackheads — Clears congestion and removes dead skin buildup that makes pores appear larger

  • Mild acne — Unclogs pores and removes excess dead skin that can contribute to breakouts

  • Dull or rough skin texture — Immediately revitalizes tired, flaky, or rough skin and boosts absorption of your daily skincare products

  • Uneven skin tone — Progressive treatments promote a smoother, more balanced complexion

How Microdermabrasion Works

Microdermabrasion uses controlled mechanical exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells — the stratum corneum.

As that layer is cleared away, the skin's natural renewal process accelerates, collagen production is stimulated, and fresher, healthier skin cells are brought to the surface.

The treatment combines gentle abrasion with suction, which simultaneously exfoliates and vacuums away the loosened debris.

The result is immediately smoother skin with improved texture, tone, and light-reflectivity — and over a course of treatments, progressive improvement in sun spots, shallow scarring, and pore size.

Three Methods, One Goal — Your Best Skin

Our certified skin technicians will assess your skin and recommend the right method at your appointment. Here's how each one works:

Diamond Tip

The most precise method. A diamond-encrusted wand exfoliates and vacuums away dead skin simultaneously — ideal for sensitive areas around the eyes and lips, and suitable for most skin types. No loose particles, no mess, consistent results.

Crystal Microdermabrasion

A slightly more intensive option. Fine aluminum oxide crystals are propelled across the skin and vacuumed away, making it well-suited for thicker skin, stubborn texture, and shallow acne scarring.

Hydradermabrasion

Exfoliation meets hydration. This method combines gentle resurfacing with simultaneous infusion of hydrating serums — perfect for dry, dehydrated, or sensitive skin that needs replenishment alongside exfoliation.

What to Expect - Microdermabrasion at Calgary Laser Health

Consultation: Your skin technician will assess your skin at the start of your appointment, determine the most suitable method, and walk you through what to expect during the session.

Preparation: Arrive with clean skin — no makeup. Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 48 hours before your appointment.

During treatment: A gentle abrasion and suction sensation across the skin. No numbing required. Most clients find it comfortable and relaxing. Sessions take 30–60 minutes depending on the method and area treated.

Immediately after: Skin may appear slightly pink for 1–4 hours. You'll notice smoother, more radiant skin right away.

Downtime: None. Return to work and daily activities immediately after your appointment.

Post-care: Avoid direct sun exposure for 24–48 hours. Apply SPF 30+ before going outside. Skip retinoids and active exfoliants for 48 hours post-treatment.

Results: Visible improvement in texture and radiance from session one. Optimal results after a course of 4–6 treatments spaced 2–4 weeks apart.

Maintenance: Monthly treatments are recommended to sustain results and support ongoing skin health.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients see a noticeable improvement after a single session. For more significant concerns — sun spots, shallow acne scarring, or persistent texture issues — we typically recommend a course of 4–6 treatments spaced 2–4 weeks apart, followed by monthly maintenance.

Is microdermabrasion painful?

No. Most clients describe it as a warm scratching or suction sensation — unusual but not uncomfortable. No numbing is required.

Is this treatment right for me?

Microdermabrasion suits most skin types and tones. It is not recommended for clients with active acne breakouts, rosacea flare-ups, open wounds, or those who have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last six months. Your technician will assess your skin at the start of your appointment and advise accordingly.

Can microdermabrasion help with acne scars?

Yes — for shallow, surface-level scarring and post-inflammatory marks. For deeper pitted scarring, we may recommend combining microdermabrasion with microneedling or fractional CO2 laser resurfacing for more significant results.

What is hydradermabrasion and how is it different?

Hydradermabrasion combines exfoliation with simultaneous infusion of hydrating serums — making it ideal for dry, dehydrated, or sensitive skin. Unlike diamond tip or crystal microdermabrasion, it replenishes the skin while resurfacing it.

How soon can I wear makeup after treatment?

We recommend waiting a few hours before applying makeup. Mineral-based products are the gentlest choice for the first day.

Can I combine microdermabrasion with other treatments?

Yes — microdermabrasion pairs well with microneedling, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, and skin tightening treatments like HIFU and Ultherapy as part of a broader skin rejuvenation plan. Your technician will advise on the right sequencing.
